Meredith Mapes – Training

| February 1, 2015 | 0 Comments

skijoring with kingMeredith Mapes has been running dogs since she was about 6 years old, and always dreamed of running the Iditarod. She was given her first sled dogs at age 12, and built a small kennel in the Knik, Alaska area and raced in lots of local races, including finishing 4 Junior Iditarods (2008-2011). She also ran her distance dogs in sprint races, always finishing dead last, or second to last, but it was the joy of running dogs that kept her mushing. She gave all her dogs away when she started college in 2011, never intending to seriously run dogs again, but working summers at Seavey’s IdidaRide Sled Dog tours in Seward has gotten the bug back in ther blood. As her college career is slowly winding down she’s starting to build a kennel again in order to qualify for and race in the Iditarod. She should be graduating in spring 2016 with a BA in theatre with an emphasis on dance. You can follow her kennel on Facebook at Facebook.com/FunontheRunKennel
